It’s the moments before everyone comes together…
A stroller being lifted.
A snack in hand (which he very kindly offered to share with me, you’ll see ☺️)
A nursing baby curled into your chest, while your older one gets their wiggles out.
Not posed or curated; An honest glimpse into parenthood and this phase of your life.
When I photograph a family, I’m not waiting for perfection: I’m looking for what’s true, while also encouraging you to do the same for yourself as we move through your session!
This means no pressure for your kids to “behave”, for everyone to have the perfect coordinating outfits, for the weather or location to be flawless (Hello, spring bugs!). This means letting go of the expectations surrounding what family photography should be, because somewhere along the way the ‘family portrait’ became synonymous with formal and traditional – an obligation done out of love, but begrudgingly for mom.
Sometimes the idea of letting go seems a bit abstract though – how can we actually let go? Like in a real and tangible way. This is an idea I’d like to explore in future blog posts, uniting my passions for teaching/practicing yoga and photography. However, for now, one of my favorite ways of encouraging clients to let go begins when we plan your session: whether we are at home or on an adventure somewhere, lets co-create an experience that feels fun for you all based on activities that you genuinely enjoy doing with each other! This minimizes, if not completely removes, any concerns about having to pose, perform, and “be on”. You don’t have to do any those things when you’re just hanging out and having fun with your favorite people, right?
Whether we’re wandering a beautiful state park in the Hudson Valley or tucked into your apartment in New York City, I just want your images to reflect the memories of a wonderful day that you spent together.
There’s beauty in the rhythm of ordinary days.
The baby you’re still getting to know.
The sibling learning to share space.
The sunlight slipping through spring trees.
My sessions are unhurried. They’re designed for families who want to feel something when they look back, not just check a box or create a holiday card.
It’s for parents who understand how fleeting this chapter is, and want to preserve it with intention.
I photograph families across NYC and the Hudson Valley who value storytelling, creativity, and having fun together.
If that sounds like you, I’d love to chat.
Spring and summer sessions are currently booking.
This session took place at New Jersey Botanical Gardens & Skyland Manor in Ringwood, NJ
